Portfolio > Lazarus Taxa

Lazarus Taxa describes organisms who we had thought had gone extinct but have been found alive, sometimes outside their traditional range. This work is a series of portraits of Lazarus taxa using the language of vanitas paintings, influenced by French funerary ceramic wreaths and the 18th century curiosity cabinets of Joseph Bonnier de La Mosson. The first selection in this series are created in 2018 using ceramic, board, gesso, gouache and gold leaf. New portraits utilize a 3D printed lithophane process.
